The Saddening Secret

No one ever listened to the little girl hiding within the woman

The fragile child living in the shell of seemingly successful strength

But she is on the edge of taking that loaded 38 to end the pain of the secrets she conceals with lovely lies

Her mind a prison of tainted memoirs that she refuses to acknowledge for the sake of appearing fine and so normal

But what they cannot see are the scars spread across her skin like galleries to an agony ignored

She worries it too will happen to her child or someone else’s

What daddy told her to close her eyes to

And mommy refused to believe

She’s 26 and she still remembers when it all began in that pallid pink dress at the age of four

No one has ever listened so she remained a silent victim

Though it continued on until the day she went off to college

And even when she fought he found away to pin her for his sick enjoyment on a floor

Her mother knew by then but chose to close the door or call her the whore

She moved half way across the world but still the past comes knocking

And she is still trying to find her voice

To break the fear holding her hostage

A road out of this void strangling her stuttering lungs
